OUR JOURNEY
In 1991, the inception of Kavelle Couture graced Edinburgh's West End. Jaspal, the visionary founder, embarked on this venture by crafting unique, bespoke dresses from the comfort of her home.
Self-taught and having honed her sewing skills from a tender age, Jaspal initially created various garments for family and friends. This evolved into the production of formalwear, including waistcoats and suits for local businesses. Her entry into the bridal industry was sparked when Jaspal's five-year-old son excitedly announced that his teacher was getting married, confidently stating, "My mom can make her dress!" This unexpected endorsement inspired Jaspal to consider venturing into bridal design, although she questioned who would trust someone they didn't know, especially someone who had never attempted a wedding dress before. To her surprise, the teacher embraced the idea, enchanted by Jaspal's passion and imagination. The resulting dress was a resounding success.
Buoyed by recommendations, Jaspal continued to create wedding dresses, eventually naming her burgeoning business "Kavelle" after her daughter. Taking her first formal step, she placed a modest advertisement in the Yellow Pages. Through diligence, practice, and customer referrals, Jaspal realised her dream in 1991 when she opened her own bridal boutique in Edinburgh's West End.
The business thrived, necessitating a move in 2004 to larger premises when a former Clydesdale Bank nearby became available. The new location, more than double the size of the previous shop, allowed Kavelle to offer an expanded range of dresses from various designers.
After numerous satisfied brides, the Kavelle brand gained acclaim not only in Scotland but also across the UK, attracting clients from as far away as Australia, Singapore, and the United States. In 2011, the company achieved further success, relocating to another former bank, an RBS in Edinburgh's New Town. This move marked the introduction of world-renowned designers such as Atelier Pronovias, Lusan Mandongus, Pronovias, Galia Lahav, and YSA Makino. Industry professionals have aptly described the boutique as a "boutique with a soul," designed to create a fairytale experience for each and every bride.
